“The flap of a butterfly’s wing can cause a tornado” – that was the opening line of the lecture delivered by the ingenious scientist Jan Berger. Laughed off the stage, this speech effectively ended his career 18 years ago…

But such a brilliant scientist does not give up easily! Obsessed with his butterfly idea, Jan retreated to a mountain pasture in Austria where he and his nerdy assistant Lutz have been experimenting in their lab. Finally – the breakthrough! He has created Murphy, the ferocious butterfly of death – four centimeters of vicious flying destruction!

Now it is time for a triumphant return, and despite the potential for catastrophic danger, Lutz talks Jan into presenting Murphy at a highly respected scientific convention in Berlin. There Jan meets his ex-girlfriend Marka, who broke up with him eight years ago because she was totally unwilling to compete with a butterfly.
She is in a relationship with von Huebsch, the Mayor of Berlin, who is not at all thrilled that Marka’s ex is coming to town. When Jan demonstrates the massive destructive power of his butterfly, von Huebsch destroys the high-security terrarium containing Murphy. Now the dreaded butterfly of doom is on the loose!

At Jan’s warning that Berlin faces total destruction a tumultuous riot of chaos and panic breaks out. His worst fears are realized when Murphy’s disastrous power proves unstoppable: the Brandenburg Gate is consumed by the earth, the top of the Berlin television tower rolls through the streets and even the rotation of the Earth itself starts slowing down!
The butterfly’s mad rampage has brought all life on the planet to the brink of extinction!
