Since the day an escaped prisoner shot a friend of her daughter’s instead of her, Commissioner Hannah Mangold has been plagued by debilitating anxiety. Her long stay in the psychiatric ward and the frequent panic attacks have taken their toll – she can no longer run the commissioner's office. 
Hannah now has the unpredictable, sexy and somewhat moody Lucy Palm as her new partner, an outsider like Hannah at the otherwise all-male police station.
Their first case involves a rapist who targets blonde women and had even killed his last victim. The investigation leads to Erno Kopp, the brother of the murder victim, but he is able to elude his pursuers and escape arrest. 
Meanwhile, Hannah's friend Svenja takes her own life – although Hannah is absolutely convinced it could not have been suicide. She discovers Svenja’s psychiatrist, Reiner Gerber, had ordered his female patients to discontinue their medications, which could quickly plunge them into a deadly depression. 
Hannah wonders if it is a coincidence that six of Gerber’s patients have committed suicide in the last four years…
But Lucy has no interest in humoring Hannah’s crazy theories – Erno Kopp is hunting her down. He is eventually caught, but Hannah still believes Gerber to be the rapist and killer. She carefully hatches a dangerous plan in which she becomes a patient of Gerber’s, but she has greatly underestimated her quarry, who has shrewdly seen through Hannah’s pretense…
