Dr. Wendelin Winter is summoned to Tuebingen to write the memoirs of Silberberg, his old professor. But when he arrives, the professor is dead – and the diary containing the man’s most intimate details has disappeared.
Meanwhile, Winter’s daughter Alexandra also lands in Tuebingen when her car breaks down. She is initially aided by the mysterious Reverend Simon Seeger, but is more than relieved when Jens, an auto mechanic, takes her under his wing. Wendelin is unaware of his daughter’s situation – Alexandra’s cell phone has disappeared.
Wendelin plunges into tracking down the secrets of Professor Silberberg and the missing diary. Silver’s daughter Clara, unable to speak, can only express herself through her piano. What does Clara know, and what is her relationship with her stepmother Marlene Silberberg? Marlene is an extremely fickle woman with a penchant for younger men. Her current lover is the attractive docent Florian Stemmle.
Digging deeply into Silberberg’s past, Wendelin deduces that the solution to the mystery revolves around the disappearance of the student Luisa Bartels eight years ago. What had actually happened back then and what dark secret is hidden behind the old walls of Silberberg’s timber-framed house?
