Katharina lives the perfect life with her husband Christoph. One morning during the daily commute to her job at the ‘Lejeune’ auction house, she meets Alexander. Although at first they merely exchange a few words, it only takes several days for the sparks to really fly…
Questioning the risk of having an affair, Katharina is encouraged by her mother Ingeborg to continue seeing Alexander. She herself had left Bernhard, her husband and Katharina’s father, years ago.
Suddenly Katharina receives some devastating news: her father is close to death after suffering a massive stroke. Rushing to the hospital, she witnesses the deep love that her father still feels for Ingeborg, and the caring warmth leaking through the cracks in her mother’s detached façade.
Deeply moved, Katharina confesses her affair to Christoph – but it barely seems to make an impression on him. Heavily disappointed by his cool indifference, Katharina retreats into seclusion. 
After turning down Alexander’s offer to travel the world together, Katharina boldly decides to go to China for several months to work as an art advisor – all by herself…
