Maria Schwadorf is a brilliant and ambitious lawyer who works alongside her boss, Dr. Georg Actis. Their relationship is more than merely professional, although the passion they share never rises beyond the purely sexual.
But Maria wants more, and when she puts an end to their limited arrangement, the two have a major falling out. In the night after she threatens to move to another law firm, Maria has a terrible car accident leaving her permanently confined to a wheelchair.
After several months she is able to return to work at her old office, but Maria quickly ascertains that her role in the law firm has been reduced – Actis no longer considers her the equally capable lawyer he needs at his side to win in court. Unwilling to accept being so displaced, Maria fights back…
She steps up to represent a victim rather than taking her usual position of handling the defense, which pits her against Actis in the courtroom. The trial involves a clinic that had scandalously covered up the death of a pregnant woman. 
Meanwhile, Maria’s physical therapist Matthias is succeeding in helping her to regain the confidence she once had in her body. As her emotional state improves, Maria’s human side once again blossoms and it is not only the court case the rejuvenated lawyer wins…
