Two years ago, 11 year-old Oliver lost his father in a car accident, leaving his mom, Nika, battling to fill both roles. Now that Oliver has a few big questions about life and death, he decides to write an email to Bill Gates – a man who his father believed knew the answer to every question.
This email is officially ignored by Lance, the head of the PR department, but John, one of the department’s employees, takes it upon himself to help. He writes Oliver back, encouraging him to search for the answers to his questions himself.
The email ends with the statement that the sender “really looks forward to meeting” Oliver at some point, and is signed, “Best wishes, Bill”.
Oliver is thrilled and persuades his mother to travel with him to Seattle with the hope of actually meeting Bill Gates.
However, all of their attempts fail. John feels bad about the situation, and takes Oliver and his mother under his wing.
During the next few days, the three spend a lot of time together, and sparks start to fly between Nika and John…
While Nika and John steadily grow closer, it occasionally seems that Oliver might actually get the chance to meet Bill Gates.
But then the young boy discovers that it was actually John who wrote the email to him, against the express instructions of his colleagues.
John is immediately dismissed from the company, and Nika, deeply disappointed that he could have so irresponsibly misled a young boy, now questions her feelings for him. Although both Oliver and Nika feel completely let down and disillusioned, the two still have major and unexpected surprises heading their way…
