After the death of his wife Anna, Max’s entire world falls apart. He winds up in an insane asylum, which forces his son Daniel to go live with his uncle, his mom’s strict older brother. 
Absolutely devastated, Max flees from the harsh realities by becoming increasingly withdrawn into his own little world – a world where he finds and befriends the invisible Albert, an imagined pal who he insists gives him great comfort.
Even before the tragedy, Max was an innovative man, always searching for new toy & game ideas for the toy factory “Dreambox” that he and his wife owned. In those days also, he was prone to bouts of absent-mindedness, such as losing track of time, letting the milk boil over, burning food and even leaving the running bath to overflow.
While living with his uncle, Daniel learns of his evil plan to sell his father’s toy factory while his father is helpless to prevent it. Taking matters into his own hands, Daniel sneaks out of the house to find his father and help him escape from the asylum. 
Soon, it’s not just an adventurous young boy, his escaped father and his invisible friend that are on the run from the authorities – they are joined by Max’s ex-employee Lena and her young daughter. In the end Max realizes that the real world has still much to offer: He is able to convince the psychologists and police that instead of being insane, he’s simply a very creative person, and he is allowed to go free.
Their wild adventure has resulted in Lena and Max finding love together, and Daniel, who has saved the toy factory from an evil fate, now has a new family as well. Once again, good triumphs over evil…
