Divorce lawyers Pia and Uli are desperately trying to have a baby – without any success. Pia, now willing to try anything, anxiously pursues her “Baby Project”, meaning: having sex on a precise schedule. This does more harm than good, and her wonderful marriage begins to suffer under the strain. 
After their attempts at in-vitro fertilization fail, Pia, who has exhausted every possibility to conceive, finally gives up in despair.
Then Pia receives another, even worse blow – during this heartbreaking time of frustration, Uli has had an affair, which only comes to light when the other woman boldly steps out from the shadows… 
Pia, crushed and enraged, immediately files for divorce. Uli, however, puts up a fight – not only for his marriage, but also for the frozen ovum that remains from the in vitro attempt. It is the ovum that proves to be the bigger issue, requiring a clarification of custody before the divorce can proceed.
In the meantime, they are still living together, although their house more resembles a war zone. The ruling on the ovum goes easily to Pia, and the divorce is finalized. After some time has passed, however, Uli’s sister and her husband arrange a “chance” meeting between the two. Despite everything that has taken place, Pia and Uli discover that they still love each other…baby, or no baby.
