It’s only after she gives up her job in Berlin to move with him back to his hometown where he’s been offered a career advancement opportunity that she learns the painful truth. The reality is that not only does Paul love football… he’s obsessed with it.
Years ago he helped found the football club “SV IMMA” and when he left town, he promised that he’d return if an emergency arose. Now, with their best player out due to an illness, Paul’s team is in dire straits - the club needs him desperately!
In shocked disbelief, Anna listens as the other “footballer’s wives” explain exactly what her destiny is now to be. On every single Sunday she is fated to adorn the sidelines and watch the pathetically untalented but highly enthusiastic guys play football. Then after the game it even gets worse.
When the wives accompany the testosterone-pumped team to the club bar where they are forced to endure the exaggerated boasts of the day’s heroically played game.
Suddenly the real reason for Paul’s return dawns on Anna and she blows a fuse. Infuriated, she offers the guys a bet – the girls against the guys in a full, 90 minute-long football match. 
If the women win, then King Football will be dethroned forever in their little town, but if the guys win, then the wives’ ceaseless complaining will come to a screeching halt and life will become one huge and endless football heaven!
Paul and his pals eagerly accept the bet, of course believing that the girls don’t stand a chance. It would be almost impossible for them to know Anna’s little secret – that up until the age of fifteen she played on the girl’s national team…
