When a group of hikers are terrified by an encounter with a young and wild bear, the townspeople in a nearby village go on high alert.
The Berlin biologist Paula Kreuzer is called in to determine how dangerous the bear actually is. Arriving in Switzerland, Paula meets the fascinating big game hunter Beat, who only has one goal – he wants to shoot it.
While the farmers are primarily concerned about their flocks of sheep, Beat is hoping for a new trophy. But before he can kill the bear, he needs official approval from an expert, so he does everything in his power to charm Paula.
Meanwhile, animal welfare activists have initiated a campaign to save the bear, now known as “Bennie”.
Beat, who is known as a ladies’ man, has no intention of giving up. On the contrary, he steps up his efforts to win Paula over. She would prefer to give the bear a chance to survive, while for him the bear is now just one of two prizes in his sights.
After they spend a night together, Paula quickly comes back to her senses. She realizes that she was simply another trophy for Beat to boast about.
Paula feels betrayed. Now that Beat is armed with her approval, the bear’s fate is sealed. Can the broken-hearted Paula still find a way to rescue the animal from certain death?
