Katharina Wallner is a dreamy and quirky storeowner who spends her lonely life amidst her shop’s eccentric collection of old movie posters and film props. The building’s owner, Heinz Ortner, wants to demolish the house but Katharina refuses to abandon her only refuge. 
Wanting her out at any cost, he enlists the aid of his caretaker to intimidate her and make her life miserable. The only solace Katharina receives is from the daily visits of the 10-year-old Lena, whose mother Miriam happens to be Ortner’s mistress.
One night, the girl helplessly watches as her mother is severely beaten by the drunken landlord. She runs to Katharina’s shop to ask for help, but the woman is extremely unsettled – this very night she had been visited by her supposedly dead sister Hannah.
The next morning, Ortner is found dead in the courtyard. The case is assigned to Commissioner Graumann, who identifies Miriam as the prime suspect. Eventually, various clues surface during the course of the investigation leading to Hannah. Had she killed Ortner? 
After a talk with her sister, even Katharina has doubts regarding her innocence. Finally, it is only after Commissioner Graumann confronts Hannah that he realizes the incredible truth…
