Luisa is looking forward to the first day of her new job as a surgical assistant doctor. Right from the very first minute Luisa has to prove herself: a complicated twin birth, reminding her of her own story.
She reacts emotionally and is heavily criticized by her boss, Dr. Stephan Roth. Despite the conflict, the two get along very well. Although Stephan is married, feelings arise.
All the assistant doctors have to fight for their jobs and future careers, yet everyone has a very different personality.
The sensitive Christian, for example, hides his aristocratic background and would much rather be a simple doctor than take over his father’s well-known cosmetic surgery clinic.
And while Luisa tends to respond with emotion and empathy, the independent Hülya remains professional. Jens has a highly competitive nature and considers the other assistant doctors as enemies.
Having fought his way up the ladder of success, he also has a problem with authority. That flaw creates conflicts and his boss takes disciplinary action against him.
Among the unique mix of personalities is the quite naive Doris, whose lack of self-confidence leaves her overwhelmed by the stress and competitive struggle at work.
The doctors deal with life-or-death decisions on a daily basis - it's in one another that they find comfort, friendship and at times more than friendship.
