“Family Showdown” is an action-packed game show in which two families face off in thrilling matches, each hoping to walk away with the grand prize – a huge amount of cash.
6 o’clock in the morning: Two show reporters surprise the families at their homes, and from that moment on, they have 36 hours to prepare for five exciting challenges. Three of them include one-on-one battles between opposing family members.
The duels involve games such as smashing windows with a Frisbee or throwing slippers into porcelain vases. The other two are team competitions such as the “Hot Wire”, which requires a steady hand from everyone in the group. Each match entails hard training, physical fitness and skill.
The opposing teams consist of at least three family members from two different generations. Everything is possible – conventional “mother-father-child” combinations or more unusual groupings. As they prepare for their individual challenges, a child may even enter into battle with an adult.
The atmosphere in the TV studio resembles a boxing arena, with the audience cheering their favorite family members on. Both the individual duels and the team matches are linked to four so-called “winning rounds”, in which the families are able to rack up prize money that they can keep, even if they don’t reach the final round.
The family that wins the last and crucial fourth round has made it to the final, where they get the chance to crack the gigantic “master pig”, filled with 25.000 Euro. However, there are two empty pigs as well. Will they pick the right one? Not an easy task!
