Tomorrow's Doctors

Real Life | Format

The half-hour real life show “Tomorrow’s Doctors” gives a unique look behind the scenes of one of the most appealing and interesting areas of university study: medicine. It is a fascinating journey through the world of young, up-and-coming doctors.

As we accompany them, we become familiar with the sincere, engaging and sometimes emotional experiences that confront these young people as they follow a common ambition: to become the best doctors they can possibly be. They are all working towards the same goal, but each must find their own way.

We follow the progress of students in different stages of their education. We see how they learn to suture wounds by practicing on small towels in their first five years of training, how well they conduct a gynecological examination on plastic dummies and how they improve their communication with patients through role-play.

But there is far more to the medical student’s life than practical training. They have to struggle with exams, find the emotional stamina to deal with their studies, and equally important - somehow take the time to relax and unwind.

During the final two years of training, the students are confronted with actual patients and are exposed to the competitive world of real medicine. It is a tough phase, from which some will emerge triumphant as doctors, while others discover they do not have what it takes and drop out of the program.

“Tomorrow’s Doctors” reveals the dramatic journeys of individual medical students on their way to becoming top physicians: both in and out of class. The show tells it like it actually is, from the humorous highs to the unavoidable disappointments. The successful launch on Belgium’s VRT resulted in a massive amount of positive feedback that has opened the door to a brand new line of reality-based formats.

Why not “Tomorrow’s Pilots”, “Tomorrow’s Cops”, “Tomorrow’s Firemen”, “Tomorrow’s Fashion Designers” etc.? Each is a line of work that requires very specialized training and forces a particular lifestyle on the aspiring trainees. With these promising formats, the audiences will be outsiders no more!
