Today, 5 million Americans boast their Norwegian ancestry. But most of them could not find Norway on a map and do not know anything about their culture, or the families that were left behind.
Now, 10 Norwegian Americans have the chance to reclaim their lost heritage. “Culture Shock: Norway” gives 10 clueless contestants their first international plane ticket and drops them into the heart of Norway to complete a series of extreme cultural challenges.
During the next 8 weeks our contestants will battle it out to prove their skill, courage and determination. They will have to eat smoked sheep’s head, night-swim for crabs, dog-sled across the frozen tundra – and much, much more. In the end, the winner will earn the right to call themselves a true Norwegian, as well as a big cash prize and a family reunion with Norwegian relatives they never knew existed.
At each new location, a Norwegian celebrity host, together with qualified locals, acts as both guide and judge, determining who has the style and determination to embrace all aspects of Norwegian culture. Each week our group is divided into 2 teams that compete against each other. The winning team enjoys a special prize and advances, while the losers compete against each other to stay in the running: 1 will be eliminated by the judges and return home to America.
Each week 1 contestant is granted “Diplomatic Immunity”. This award is given to the traveller who is an ambassador for their home country showing kindness and good spirit, regardless of the difficulties thrown in their path. And there will be plenty of them. With “Diplomatic Immunity” they are safe from elimination in the next week’s competition.
In the final episode, the remaining contestants will have to use everything they have learned on their journey to win the final challenge and claim the grand prize: $50,000 and a family reunion with their long-lost relatives in Norway!
A reunion with a family, a country and a culture: that is “Culture Shock: Norway”.
And remember, it does not matter whether you are from Germany, England, Scandinavia or Japan. Watch out: “Culture Shock” might be coming your way!
