2 Men and a Rowing Boat

1 rowboat, 2 men and 5000 kilometers of ocean

Special | 5 x 25’

Crossing the Atlantic Ocean in a rowing boat? Most people would consider it a crazy undertaking – but Bart Verboven and Christophe Sepot are not most people.

These two fairly sane guys, who completely lack even the slightest rowing experience, made the incredible decision to take on this almost unimaginable challenge for the benefit of Doctors without Borders and row across an unpredictable expanse of salt water that covers approximately 1/5 of the earth’s surface.

On January 26th 2010, Bart and Christophe set out from Spanish Gran Canaria on a 5000-kilometer trip in their boat. On May 15th they arrived in Kourou, French Guiana.

The 109-day expedition was not always easy – quite the contrary! Not only did they completely lose their bearings on the vast ocean, they even had to be rescued by the Coast Guard.

As well, the two were continually confronted by extreme weather conditions, ruthless currents and a number of technical problems.

Nevertheless, Bart and Christophe kept their humor throughout the ordeal and continually found occasion for fun and laughter.

It was an unforgettable experience that permanently solidified their friendship.

This spectacular and often extremely humorous special features the entire adventure – from their massive preparations and setting off until finally, their long-awaited arrival in French Guiana.

Interspersed throughout are interviews with their friends and relatives at home that highlight the amazing story from an outside but nevertheless very personal point of view.
